Youth and Young Families Ministry Coordinator

Two Rivers Pastoral Charge is looking to find our next Youth and Young Families Ministry Coordinator!

This is a part-time position (13 hours/week or 55 hours/month), and the role is to encourage spiritual growth of the Two Rivers Pastoral Charge Youth by developing church programs for children, youth, and young families.

Tasks and Responsibilities include:

  • Planning, preparing, and facilitating Youth Connection gatherings.

  • Planning, preparing, and facilitating Sunday School weekly at Westfield and every second week at Long Reach.

  • Planning, preparing, and facilitating annual Vacation Bible School at Westfield and Long Reach.

  • Discerning opportunities for programming with children and youth at Bayswater-Summerville.

  • Working with volunteers to implement programs.

  • Establishing and nurturing a sense of inter-connectiveness between youth, young families, the wider congregation, and the wider community.

  • Encouraging within the youth a vision of service to others.

  • Communication with youth and families to keep them informed of event times and locations, and to encourage participation.

  • Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, especially with persons in crisis.

  • Communication with the congregations about programming for youth and young families.

  • Remaining sensitive to the limitations of training around issues such as substance abuse, identity, and abuse disclosure, and refer these matters to the Minister of Two Rivers Pastoral Charge.

  • Be available (upon request) to attend meetings of the Two Rivers Pastoral Charge Official Board to report on youth and young families programming and events.

  • Prepare quarterly reports to the Official Board, and an annual report to the Pastoral Charge.

  • Ensure that all gathering spaces reflect the church seasons, the teachings of the United Church of Canada, the Mission and Values of Two Rivers Pastoral Charge (including our Inclusivity Statement), and the value we place on the spiritual life of our youth.

Accountability and Support:

  • You will be accountable to and supported by the Ministry and Personnel Committee of Two Rivers Pastoral Charge, by the authority of the Official Board.

  • Day-to-day connection and direction is primarily with the Minister of Two Rivers Pastoral Charge.

  • You will report your allocation of time and expenses on a monthly basis to the Treasurer of Two Rivers Pastoral Charge.

Working Hours:

  • The 13 hours per week will be allocated at your discretion.  This may include meetings with the Minister, presence at Sunday School and Youth Connection, meeting with volunteers in the three congregations, as well as time for planning.

  • Some seasons are busier in the church year (e.g. December, Easter), and some seasons are quieter (e.g. summer) - there may the need for some flexibility in your hours to be more available in busier seasons, balanced out by the quieter seasons.


  • You will be required to obtain a Criminal Records Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check before beginning work.

  • You should be familiar with the theology and ethos of the United Church of Canada, or be willing to learn.

  • You should be self-directed, reliable, flexible, and able to work with minimal supervision/oversight.

  • You should have access to a vehicle, since this position covers all three churches in Two Rivers Pastoral Charge.


  • The salary is $16/hour plus 4% vacation pay, paid monthly on submission of actual hours worked.

  • $50 per month is offered for home internet service, as email accessibility is necessary for this role.

  • Support for Continuing Education can be negotiated.

  • All other terms and conditions of employment are based on the New Brunswick Employment Standards and the United Church of Canada Employment Guidelines for Lay Employees.
